BY ALEX IONA
To express the tragedy of a legend through a single gaze, to evoke emotion through posture, to shape an identity in the classical veil of mythology.
Beyond symbolism, beyond dissecting and simplifying, beyond playing and creating, embracing flaws and the lo-fi aesthetics, constructing this Zodiac was also about understanding and including pieces of personality that differ to my own nature. It was about exploring, expanding and getting to know more about myself, while being completely under disguise. Lastly, it was about giving others a personal vision of the twelve dark, romantic creatures that might be guiding their steps from within.
Alex Iona is a visual artist from Romania who turned to photography, painting and mixed media after studying Decorative Art (Metal Art) in Bucharest. In her photography she goes back and forth from being an observer of quiet things to telling a story through self portraits or collage. She looks for beauty in unexpected places with the aim to capture feelings, atmospheres and explore the infinite potentials of the absence of color.
